What to do on New Years Eve?

What to do on New Years eve? This is a question I ask myself every year and every year I struggle to think of an original or fun answer

This year was no different but at least I had decided to go away with family and friends for a couple of days. .just so I would have a different location to contemplate that age old question,”What to do on New Year Eve? ”

The morning arrived and someone in my group suggested Tintern Abbey for the morning. .Yes, part of the burden was taken off my shoulders. ..off we toddled and an Abbey was explored.  Now only the eve looms. ..”what to do on New Years Eve ?”

Answer quickly please. .only 2 1/2 hours to go now  …

Hot tub in the rain

I decided to spend New Year this year in one of our favourite bed and breakfasts in Ross -on -Wye. The uniquely strange house in Howle Hill

One of the reasons I like this accommodation is their outdoor hot tub. It’s on the top of hill.

Last night, I sneaked off to the tub, to spend a bit of time alone in the warm , colourful foaming water. ..and it was great.  I pushed every button, had water shooting up everywhere. .and to top it all, it started to rain lightly. Simply beautiful

Rude Numerology

As one does,  I found myself surfing the Internet randomly this afternoon

One search lead to another and somehow I found myself on a free numerology site.

With a few minutes to kill,  I input my details and hey presto up popped my results.

All was going great. .apparently I am going to have a successful,  prosperous happy future with great relationships…and then it came out, ” you are not as thin as you used to be !” The reading told me.  How dare it! I didn’t think these type of reading were supposed to be so personal.  Yes, I may have put on  pound or three. .but you don’t expect a free reading to confirm this 😉😉

Twixmas

This week is a funny old week.  The week between Christmas and the New Year.

It feels like a week full of Sundays , half of me wants to go to the gym, but the stronger half tells me,  “Its still the Christmas Holidays , watch TV and eat “. So I give in.

I logic it out, well I am between my Christmas holiday and My short new year trip to Ross-on-Wye,  so it must still be a holiday.

Now, where’s the remote and chocolates

Sods Law

On many occasions, I have taken an umbrella out and this little law rears it’s head. .no rain

I decide to walk because I am late for the bus and the bus is even later

Well, it stuck again this Christmas on a much larger scale.  I took the whole family on am epic Christmas trek to find snow at the one place I thought would be most likely to have it…the foot of Ben Nevis . No snow, not even a flake

Yesterday, I we all drove back to a snow covered Birmingham!  You can’t make it up

Food overload so let’s walk..

The hotel we are staying at in Fort William cannot be faulted for the food and the continuous quantity of it being served to us

I never go full board so this is an exception.  Yes, the hotel has a gym and a swimming pool which looks up to the snow capped mountain of Ben Nevis but in itself it isn’t doing much to quench the avalanche of food we are all consuming.

So today we walked and walked. Around a castle , through alleys, estates, stunning scenery and then the town centre. ..and it was great. Crisp cold air, wonderful scenery and ending up in a dog friendly pub. …I cannot think of a much better way to spend boxing day

Family swimming on Christmas day

We did some today we have never done before on Christmas day.

Eat until we are stuffed. .tick. But it’s not that

Open present. .tick. But it’s not that

Pull crackers. .tick. But it’s not that

OK. .what is it? Well my family and I are in Fort William, Scotland.  So obviously 😉 we went swimming in the hotel pool and
had fun whilst admiring the stunning and bleak Ben Nevis.

Christmas in Scotland

I had a good idea. . . So I thought.  Let’s all go to Scotland for Christmas, where I was hoping to find snow for Christmas

I thought about it long and hard. ..where am I most likely to find snow. .I know the highest place in the UK. ….yes, of course. .. Ben Nevis

A quick check on the Internet, did it have a hotel,  yes it did. So I booked it for the 3 days over Christmas

Cars were packed  and off we all toddled, my children, their partners , a couple of friends, 4 cars and our dog.

Scotland is a long way to drive on Christmas Eve, so I started at 4am!  I did have to pick my eldest up on route via Leigh  (near Bolton )

As the scenery became dramatic, so did the weather. ..Yes I found a change of weather to wonderful wet and windy.  Not quite snow. But I still have Christmas day to come. ….

Annual Present Swap

All around the country people are taking part in the annual present swap with relatives and yesterday was our families day.
Off I trundled to my home town of Watford. Just before I pulled up at my family home, I spotted the rare and elusive sight of my brother fleeing the street in his car.  “A narrow escape ” I could hear him thinking

Festive chats along with food then followed before the climax of the visit…..yes the Christmas present swapping and finally I trundled back to Birmingham for another year
